There’s more to discover in Pahrump than the wide-open desert and mountain views. This November, the valley welcomes visitors for the annual Pahrump Social Powwow, a three-day celebration of Native American culture, music, dance, art, food and community.
Held at Petrack Park from November 20–22, the Powwow is the perfect reason to spend a weekend in Pahrump — and there’s plenty more to experience while you’re here. From local history and unexpected roadside discoveries to desert landscapes, locally made flavors and one-of-a-kind attractions, make a weekend of it and discover another side of Pahrump.
Day 1: Shop, Savor & Settle Into Pahrump
Once you arrive in Pahrump, be sure to make your way to the Tourism Info Center to pick up a local map as you get settled in for a fun weekend. Then, kick off your Pahrump getaway on the first day of the Pahrump Social Powwow, taking place at Petrack Park from noon to 5 p.m. on Friday. The three-day gathering celebrates Native American culture, community and traditions, bringing together dancers, drummers, artisans and community members for a weekend of cultural sharing.
Spend the afternoon browsing handcrafted art and goods, discovering unique finds from vendors, and sampling food available throughout the event weekend. Whether you’re shopping for something special or simply enjoying the atmosphere, Friday offers a great introduction to the Powwow and the community behind it.
When the event wraps up, continue your Pahrump adventures with dinner at one of the valley’s local restaurants. Enjoy a slice or two at Farinata Italian Style Pizza, savor American cuisine and drinks at Steelbound Brewery & Distillery, or explore authentic Thai flavors at Chatthai Bistro. With plenty of local dining options to choose from, you’re sure to find something to satisfy your appetite.
Then, make your way to Pahrump Nugget for an evening of entertainment. Try your luck at the casino, hit the bowling lanes, or simply take in the lively atmosphere as you wind down your first day in the valley.
And with two main days of the Powwow ahead, your Pahrump weekend is just getting started.
Day 2: Immerse Yourself in the Powwow
After you enjoy some breakfast and coffee at O Happy Bread or Our Place, get ready to head back to Petrack Park for the second day of the Pahrump Social Powwow, taking place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, with the Grand Entry at noon.
The Grand Entry is a highlight of the Powwow, beginning with the Color Guard leading the procession and posting the colors. The dancers then enter the circle in their beautiful regalia, followed by a welcome from the Master of Ceremonies, who will introduce himself and officially welcome everyone to this annual gathering. It’s a meaningful celebration of Native American culture, heritage and community, offering visitors an opportunity to experience traditions passed down through generations.
Spend the day taking in the drumming, singing and traditional dances, including performances by the Aztec Dancers. There will also be opportunities for audience members to participate in select dances and join in the fun, including a potato dance. Between performances, take time to browse the food and craft vendors, discover handcrafted artwork and goods, and enjoy the welcoming atmosphere of this community gathering.
After the Powwow wraps up at 6 p.m., keep exploring Pahrump’s local dining scene. Enjoy a classic steak dinner at Stockman’s Steakhouse, dig into Italian favorites at Carmelo’s Bistro, or opt for Mexican cuisine at Romero’s. From casual local spots to a more leisurely evening meal, Pahrump offers plenty of ways to make dinner part of the adventure.
Then, if you’re looking for a little more entertainment, check out the live music and special events at The Wine Down, head out for a night of dancing at Rhinestones Country Bar, or enjoy a more laid-back evening at Shenanigans.
Before you turn in for the night, be sure to step outside and take advantage of Pahrump’s nighttime skies. Find a quiet spot away from the lights, look up and enjoy the stars stretching across the desert sky. It’s a peaceful way to end a day filled with culture, community and discovery.
Day 3: One Last Day of Culture & Discovery
Start your final day in Pahrump by powering up with a locally brewed cup of coffee. You can choose from local favorites like Black Cow Coffee House, Java Junkies, or Caffe Chilly before heading out for another day of exploring.
Then, make your way back to Petrack Park for the final day of the Pahrump Social Powwow, taking place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the Grand Entry at noon, followed by dancers entering the circle in their beautiful regalia. Enjoy the drumming, singing and traditional dances one last time while celebrating the Native American culture, heritage and community at the heart of this annual gathering.
There’s more fun to be had throughout the day, too. Browse the food and craft vendors, discover handmade goods, join in the excitement of the Sunday cake walk, and take part in the raffle for a handmade quilt.
After the Powwow, venture out and discover another side of Pahrump before wrapping up your trip. Heading out to the Pahrump Portal is a great way to experience a collection of memorable stops with a little something for everyone. Browse unusual finds and local goods at Death Valley Marketplace, then discover the wonderfully unconventional world of Coffinwood, where coffin-shaped buildings, a pet cemetery and plenty of darkly creative details make this one of Pahrump’s most memorable stops. Be sure to check out Weathers Gulch Ghost Town, too, for a taste of the Old West and some memorable photo opportunities.
And if you have additional time before heading home, take the short drive to Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge. Its spring-fed wetlands, wildlife and remarkably clear blue waters offer a completely different perspective on the Mojave Desert.
From the cultural traditions and community celebrated at the Powwow to Pahrump’s local flavors, distinctive attractions, history and natural wonders, a weekend here offers plenty of ways to connect with the valley and make the most of your visit.
